What to expect

Every 5 October Bansko celebrates its liberation from Ottoman rule in 1912. In past years the day has started with a liturgy at Holy Trinity Church, followed by a flag-raising on Georgi Izmirliev Square, flowers at the Macedonian-Adrianople volunteers monument and a reenactment of the 1912 events. It's a good chance to see the old town at its most local.
